The NHS should put the patient at the centre of everything it does. To develop this approach NHS staff will play an important role and there will be new measures to encourage patient and public involvement (PPI) . These new measures for PPI will enable patients to be as involved as they want to be in decisions about their care and enable communities to be involved in decision making about their local health service.

All hospital, primary care and community trusts have the responsibility to ask patients and carers for their views on the services they have received. Every NHS organisation has to publish a patient prospectus each year giving an account of the views received from patients and what has been done as a result.

This booklet includes background information about West Gloucestershire PCT, how the NHS works, details of how you can ‘get involved’ and a reply form.
