Support Group for people with Diabetes in Gloucester
24/04/2006
A special support group is the latest service to be offered to people with diabetes in Gloucester.
The first meeting has been organised by West Gloucestershire PCT and Community Counts Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Suzy Allard and the group will provide support and advice to people in managing their own condition. It will also give those who attend an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge.
Suzy said:
“West Gloucestershire PCT places great emphasis on providing improved services for patients with Diabetes and we are now offering this opportunity for people to receive additional support and advice in an informal, relaxed setting. The aim is for the group to be organised and run by people with diabetes with support as necessary from health care professionals.”
Local White City resident, Sandie Norris who has helped arrange the first meeting said:
“Evidence shows that self help groups such as these can be really powerful in helping people to manage their own condition and improve health and well-being. There is also the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others and provide support to one another. I am looking forward to the first meeting and would urge other interested people to come along and see how it could help them.”
The initial meeting will be held on Wednesday 10 May, 6.30pm – 8pm at Dickens Close Sheltered Housing, Dickens Close (off Northfield Road), White City, Gloucester.
The purpose of this meeting is to gauge the interest of people with diabetes and their families in helping to run this group or being a participant. Anyone interested in attending can turn up on the day.
