Patch Profile
The population profile is similar to that of the PCT as a whole though with slightly higher numbers of younger adults aged 15-44 and less in the older age group of 45 to 64. The patch includes Gloucester Prison which houses approximately 300 men.
- The Central Gloucester Patch has the second highest fertility rate (59.5) of all the patches. The fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women aged between 15 and 44
- The Patch has the highest index of multiple deprivation of all the patches (including income, employment, health, education, housing, child poverty)
- In the 2001 census, 10.5% of the Central Gloucester population felt their health was not good. This was the highest percentage across the PCT
- The Central Gloucester patch has the highest number of people who declared in the 2001 Census, they were living with limiting long term illness
- The patch has the highest estimated diabetes rate in the over 16 age group
- The patch has the highest unemployment rate across the PCT (5.6%)
- The Central Gloucester patch, based on 2000 data, has been ranked highest out of the eight patches in a number of crime categories.
