District Nursing Team, Rikenel Health Centre
The District Nursing Team has been working on the Gold Standards Framework for Palliative Care, which has enhanced the high standard of care that patients receive.
Sandy Tyrell, District Nursing Team Leader said: “It has increased our confidence in the quality of care that we give through improved communication, awareness, knowledge, team work and co-ordinated planning.”
BiBs (Breast is Best) breast feeding support group
BiBs is a breast feeding support group based at the Trust Centre, Conduit Street. Although begun by a Breast Feeding Counsellor and health professionals, it is now run by local mothers, for mothers.
Sue Barrett, one of the organisers of BiBs said: “The intention is to encourage mothers to breast feed and support them through any problems. Breast feeding has a protective effect on the health of both mothers and babies including offering some protection against obesity.”
The ‘Look after Your Legs’ health initiative
Patients, Carers, the Bartongate District Nursing Team and the Health Psychology Team have all played their part in the success of the ‘Look after Your Legs’ initiative.
District Nurse, Anna Gibbins said: “The sessions held over the last year have been interactive with lots of involvement from patients and carers who are living with leg ulcers and coping with compression bandaging and stockings as part of everyday life.”
Health promotion advice was given at the sessions at GL1 such as skin and toe nail care, shoe advice and passive exercises.
Nutritional sessions with parents
Nutritional sessions started last year at the Trust Centre in Conduit Street and are run by two nurses from Rikenel Health Centre, Lucy Simms and Sharon Taylor with Health Visitor support from Sue Campbell (Bartongate Surgery).
The sessions involve advice to parents about weaning their babies onto solid food, where to get ongoing support and advice and provide an opportunity for parents to meet others in a similar situation.
