Patch Profile
The East Gloucester patch population profile is very similar to that of the PCT as a whole with the exception of the 15 to 44 age group where the patch population is less (37.9%) than the PCT figure (40.3%). The patch also has a higher number of people in the 65-74 and over 75 age groups than the average for the PCT.
- The fertility rate of 52.6 is the third lowest in the PCT. The fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women aged between 15 to 44 years
- East Gloucester has one of the lowest deprivation scores out of the eight patches. It scores most highly on child poverty and education. However there is evidence to suggest that there are small pockets of deprivation in some areas disguised by the larger more affluent areas of East Gloucester
- In the 2001 census, 7.5% of the East Gloucester population felt their health was not good. This is the second lowest figure in the PCT area
- The patch has the lowest number of people suffering from a limiting long term illness with 16% of the population affected. This information links to the relatively low number of people who perceive their health to be ‘not good’
- The patch is ranked sixth out of the eight patches in terms of the estimated diabetes rates in the over 16’s.
- The patch has the second lowest number of unemployed people across the PCT, with only 2.1% of its population affected. This is less than the County (2.5%) and England and Wales (3.3%) figures
- The patch was ranked sixth out of the eight patches for crimes such as violent crime, burglary from dwellings, theft of a vehicle and young offenders.
