Parent and Toddler Group in Churchdown

Healthcare staff in the East Gloucester patch are working to set up a Parent and Toddler Group on the Coriander Drive Estate in the Tenants Association Building. This is the most deprived area in Churchdown and has very few facilities.

Funding has already been secured for a Nursery Nurse to lead the group and the NHS are being supported by Severnvale Housing who manage the Estate.

The Health Visitors at Stokes Hay have being working to get the project off the ground.

Penny OwenContinence Clinic at Brockworth Surgery

Penny Owen, District Nurse at Brockworth Surgery was asked by the Continence Department to run a clinic locally.

To further extend her skills she did an 8 month secondment to the Continence Department and can now offer simple investigations and diagnostic tests.

Penny Owen said “This now means that patients can be seen in their immediate locality; quickly and without having to travel long distances to clinics at the General Hospitals.”

Young Mums Group

A weekly drop in session is held at the Brockworth Community Project open to both pregnant young women and young mums. The group provides advice, guidance and support.

As well as educational opportunities and child related courses, there is also an active social aspect of the group with activities for both mums and children.

Breast Feeding Peer Supporters Group, Churchdown

Funding has been agreed to set up a breast feeding peer supporters group. The aim of the group is to train mums who have successfully breast fed to support other mums.

There will also be a Health Visitor from Hucclecote Surgery and a Breast Feeding Counsellor on hand to offer more specific advice and support.
