Patch Profile
-
The Newent and Staunton patch has a larger older population aged 45 to 75+ than the PCT as a whole. It accounts for over 47% of the patch population
- The patch has the lowest fertility rate across the PCT (42.3). The fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women of child bearing age (15 to 44). This is not surprising as it also has the lowest number of women of child bearing age
- The Newent and Staunton patch is one of the least deprived of the patches. It only scores highly on the issue of access
- The patch also has the lowest number of people who claimed their health was not good during the last Census. With just 6.8% of the patch population being affected this figure is less than the figures for the county (7.5%) and England and Wales (9.2%)
- Within the Newent and Staunton patch 16.1% of the population claim to be living with limiting long-term illness. This is the same as the county figure and below the figure for England and Wales (18.2%)
- The patch has the lowest estimated diabetes rate in the over 16’s
- The patch has the lowest rate of unemployment across the PCT (2%). This fits with the high educational achievement across the patch
- The patch is ranked lowest in terms of the following categories of crime (for 2000): violent crime, burglary from dwellings, theft of a vehicle and young offenders
- The Newent and Staunton patch does not have a particularly disadvantaged group. However rural isolation can affect those without transport and lead to social isolation.
