The patch covers a large rural area, with two main population centres, Cinderford and Coleford and has a practice population of over 40,000.
There are 7 GP practices within the area with a total of 24 GPs and a Community Hospital, the Dilke Memorial Hospital in Cinderford.
The PCT has developed a pilot scheme in the patch that hands the purchasing of health services to a partnership of the PCT, the Patch Team and clinicians based in the 7 GP practices and the Community Hospital. The aim of the pilot is to ensure that these services match more closely the needs of local patients.
To help the PCT better understand the priorities of the local community and to respond to their health needs, the North Forest Patch Team has been formed, involving frontline health and social services staff and local people in local decision-making about local health services.
