Gill Carne: Public Patch Team Representative

Most of my childhood was spent in Worcester: my career was as an Occupational Therapist, working in various hospitals in Bristol and Swindon, and finally for four years at the Dilke, which I enjoyed enormously. It is a great privilege to have been on so many home visits in the Forest.

I am married to Canon Brian Carne, and therefore have had a great deal of involvement in parish life. We have three children and six wonderful grandchildren. I have had two career breaks, to look after our children and then as a carer for ageing parents.

My hobbies are wild life, walks with the dogs, gardening, and craft-work which included making a 12’ wardrobe out of oak pews. I have been chair of Lydbrook Community Care since its inception twelve years ago.

Nikki Burley: Public Patch Team Representative

I started training as a nurse in 1960 at the Charing Cross Hospital in London; I qualified in 1963 and for a time worked at Fulham Hospital on one of the first Renal Dialysis Units in the Country. After six years as an Occupational Health Nurse, I spent the rest of my working life in the NHS – with a short break, when we lived in Scotland, to bring up my children. For the last twenty-three years I was a Practice Nurse in the Forest of Dean. I retired in 2003.

I am married with two grown up daughters and two grandchildren. My husband and I have lived in Newnham-on-Severn for almost 30 years.

Outside of my family, my interests are music, live theatre and dogs. I am a Trustee of the St. Bernard Trust, a national organisation that seeks out homes for unwanted and ill-treated Saint Bernard dogs.

My name is Heather Meredith I am a Deputy Team Manager with Social Services working with a team of staff providing services for older people and young people with physical disabilities. I have been based at the Forest office for about 3 years but prior to that worked in a similar team in Gloucester for 16 years although I have lived in the Forest for about 20 years so am pleased to be based on home territory. I am delighted with recent developments leading to closer working partnerships with colleagues in the health service and welcome the opportunity to participate in the North Forest Patch team involving the public in decision making processes.

Sharon Dawson - Allied Health Care Professional Patch Team Representative

I am Sharon Dawson and I have lived in the Forest of Dean for 18 years. For 6 years I worked in Social Services and for the last three and a half I have been based at the Dilke hospital. I am representing the Allied Health Professions in the Patch.

As an Occupational Therapist based within a community hospital I assist patients to be able to manage when they return home. This may be through provision of equipment, practice and relearning skills or working out new ways to do things.

Some of my colleagues also work in the community with people and they may get involved with helping them to do all sorts of occupations from dressing to returning to work
