Patch Profile
The South East Gloucester patch has a higher number of children and adults in the 0-44 age groups (62.6%) than the PCT average (58.6%). However this patch has less people aged 45 and above than the average across the PCT.
- The patch has the third highest fertility rate in the PCT, with 58.7 births per 1,000 women aged 15-44
- In terms of multiple deprivation, South East Gloucester scores evenly for all indices (Child poverty, income, employment, health, education, housing and access) with the exception of access to services where it has one of the lowest scores across the PCT showing good access to services
- In the 2001 census, 8.6% of the South East Gloucester population felt their health was not good. This is one of the highest figures in the PCT area
- Rather surprisingly, the patch has one of the lowest percentages (15.9%) of people suffering from a limiting long term illness despite having relatively high numbers of people stating their health was not good. This demonstrates the different experiences of people who feel they have poor health but who continue to work or care for families
- The patch is ranked highly in terms of the estimated diabetes rates in the over 16’s. This is not surprising as this patch has the second highest Black and Minority Ethnic population and diabetes is known to be more common in these groups
- The patch has the second highest unemployment rate in the PCT, with 3.3% of the patch population being unemployed at the time of the 2001 Census.
- The patch is ranked second highest out of the eight patches for crimes such as violent crime, burglary from dwellings, theft of a vehicle and young offenders.
