Trinity Surgery Nurses and the Healthy Living Worker
The Healthy Living Worker and the District Nursing Team based at Matson have been carrying out ‘Health MOTs’ in the local community.
Practice Manager, Kevin Willis said: The initiative provides a measure of early detection helping to raise people’s awareness of their own health.”
Healthy Eating in Matson
A new initiative was launched in Matson in May 2004 called ‘Healthy eating for you and your kids’. It includes healthy eating demonstrations and physical activity sessions.
Throughout the summer holidays there have been a series of nutrition and exercise projects targeted at young people. This has included: healthy breakfasts for 17 and 18 year olds, outdoor play for children, a kite flying day and young people ran and participated in rugby training.
The South East Gloucester patch benefits from the services of Registered General Nurse (RGN), Fran MacKay who specialises in care for older people.
The Community Nurses for Older People are involved in falls prevention work and also provide services to housebound patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes including lifestyle advice and physical checks.
Fran said: “I am particularly interested in the development of services to provide greater support at home for people with dementia and their carers.”
Post natal depression support group and recovery programmes
Health Visitor, June Reeves runs the Gloucester area post natal depression support group at Russett House.
The Phoenix Club in Matson also offers recovery programmes for adults with mental health problems. The aim of the project is to support people by providing activities in the local community.
