Best Foot Forward Project
The “Best Foot Forward” initiative was set up to address basic foot care needs that are not provided by NHS Podiatry Services.
The BFF initiative is being piloted in South Forest (and Gloucester) for a year and is a partnership between Gloucestershire Podiatry Services and Social Services.
Two Home Care Assistants in each area have been trained to provide four basic foot care tasks (toe nail cutting, filing of toenails, foot hygiene and the application of emollient creams for dried, cracked skin).
Referrals are made to the service by GPs and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.
Physio Direct
The Physio Direct service began in the Forest of Dean in September 2004.
It’s a telephone service that has been set up to provide early advice and support for adults with back, neck and joint problems.
The NHS is piloting the service initially for patients registered with Blakeney GP surgery and the two Lydney surgeries. There is a designated phone line and patients are informed of specific times they can ring in and speak to a physiotherapist directly.
Lydney and District Hospital’s New Casualty Department
In the Summer of 2002, staff and members of the public celebrated the official opening of the ‘magnificent’ new £427,000 casualty department.
The project, which was made possible thanks to a substantial financial contribution from ‘the Friends’, The Mabey Group and the local NHS has resulted in the provision of state of the art facilities for the benefit of local patients.
Exercise on Referral Scheme, Lydney
An exercise on Referral Scheme has been successfully operating from Whitecross Leisure Centre for several years.
The aim of the scheme is to encourage those who have chronic (long standing) conditions or the sedentary to become more physically active. There are 2 instructors who help and support the patients referred from GPs and Practice nurses. There are currently 27 people on the scheme.
