Patch Profile
The South West Gloucester patch has a higher number of people aged 0-44 than the average across the PCT, this is not surprising as this patch contains a large modern housing estate that is very popular with young families. The three age groups covering the 45 to 75+ age range contains less people than the PCT average
- There are local variations within the South West Gloucester patch with a higher proportion of young people in Quedgeley and a higher proportion of older people in Tuffley
- The patch has the highest fertility rate in the PCT (61.7). The fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women aged between 15 to 44 years
- In terms of multiple deprivation, the patch scores particularly highly on education, where it has the worst score (i.e. lowest educational achievement) of all the patches within the PCT. The South West patch also scores highly on the child poverty index where the score closely follows that of Central Gloucester
- In the 2001 census, 8.1% of the South West Gloucester population felt their health was not good. This is one of the lowest figures in the PCT area
- 17.4% declared on their Census forms that they were living with a long term illness. This figure is above the County figure (16.1%) and below the England and Wales figure (18.2%)
- The patch is ranked fifth out of eight in terms of estimated diabetes rates in the over 16 age group
- Despite the patch having a poor level of educational attainment overall the percentage of the population who are unemployed is 3.1% This is the fourth highest percentage of the eight patches
- The patch is ranked third highest out of the eight PCT patches for all categories of crime.
